199 People

We had 199 people at the Zone this year. Wow! This number is up from the past 2 years and we are so thankful for God's faithfulness to this camp. I plan on posting more photos and reflections in the days and weeks to come. You can also check out our facebook page for more photos.

End Zone

We are back from the Zone... it is done. Friday went so well getting everyone packed up, cleaned up, and out of camp. I have a group photo that hope to post soon. Again, we had 199 people at camp this year + a few visitors. I truly believe this number is because of God's faithfulness to the Zone the past 7 years. We are looking forward to next year. Speaking of next year, save the date for June 6 - 10, 2011.

More reflections and comments and photos of The Zone 2010 to come!

Night of Worship and Prayer

Last night we had a time of worship and prayer. Amazing is not how I would describe our time, but life changing. So many students and leaders connected with the Lord in new and deep ways. In one Church, many students stood up and shared how much the time meant to them and how they are growing and learning about the Lords great love for them. They also shared how they felt connected to the group and loved by the leaders. Some church groups didn't leave their time together till almost midnight, and we started our evening at 8:30pm. I am sure many of our students will go home and want to share with family and friends all the things they learned and experienced last night. We encourage you to listen, to open your heart to them and their unique experiences. I think everyone is looking forward to the night of prayer and worship next year.

Other random notes from yesterday:
First, The soccer game was awesome. The students beat the leaders 3 - 1. The competition brought our group together instead of tear us apart.
Second, the blog was full of life yesterday afternoon. I think I saw one student flip in the air before landing in the water.
Third, the ice cream at the Cafe was a hot item last night. I think the pick of the evening was 'Birthday Cake'.

We are now about to start our morning session and I will write more later!

Talent Show

Last night was our annual Zone's got Talent Show. It was awesome! We had magic acts, dance performances, skits, and many more. Again, I have photos from the event but will upload them next week. Personally, I think the highlight of the talent show was the Cool Central Pres leaders dancing to 'Bye Bye Bye'. I might be slightly biased.

We also had a concert from the band, Pilot for Kite, last night. Pilot for Kite was our Zone band in previous years and are so thankful that they stopped through camp on their tour. Thank you, Luke.

On tap for today: Morning devotions, prayer, lunch, soccer, kickball, t-shirt crafts, etc...

Wednesday at the Zone

Today at the Zone has been AWESOME! We started the morning with Zane hart talking about God's great love for us, despite our sin and brokenness. He talked about how even though God knows are sin, he still pursues and forgives us and delights to be in relationship with us. Many of the students left encouraged.

After the devotion the students went to their own time of personal reflection and confession. Here, they were encouraged to seek God's great love and receive his fatherly care for us. So often, students do not spend time resting and reflecting from all that life brings. We want the Zone to be a time where they can rest and reflect and gave them the time to do this.

I want to take a moment to talk about our awesome seminar speaker and topics for the week.
First, Steve and Katrina Dalbey have been talking about Culture and how to engage with culture instead of retreat or judge. We are using Walt Mueller's 3D design method (Discover, Discern, Decide) from the website www.cpyu.org. We encourage everyone to visit this side as we engage with the world we live in.
Second, Stephen Yates has given a talk on dealing with doubt. His lecture is for students who wonder if Christianity is true and have questions. Stephen Yates is leading an honest discussion on this topic and the feedback has been very positive.
Third, Bill Thompson has had a time of Q & A. Bill has an Masters of Divinity from Covenant Seminary and he has encouraged students to come with questions about the Bible, God and their faith.
Fourth, Bo Kyle is talking about Telling the best story (yours and God's). He talks about how our lives are full of stories and some are hard to get through. Bo shares about how God has a great story and how we fit into this story despite our own story.
Fifth and finally, Beth and Zane hard have been talking about our bodies and how God believes that our bodies are important to who we are. They are talking about God has a plan to redeem and restore our bodies.

Wow - that is a lot.

Before I go I will say that students has fun this afternoon at the blog, the pool, the volleyball court and other activities here at Lake Williamson. We are so thankful for the sunny weather today and look forward to being able to show you the photos early next week.

See ya!

still having trouble with the internet

We are still having trouble with the internet. It is really SLOW! We are unable to upload photos but promise to do so after camp. We will, however, tell you about all the fun things so far at camp.

Monday Night: Registration went very well. Lindsey Wilkins is a pro at organization and everything went very well. After registration we had dinner and then kicked off the evening with singing, games and our first talk. The worship team is lead by Sherdonna Denholm is leading the band of high school boys and they sound professional. Drew Wilkins is our camp speaker and he talked about story. We are all part of a story. We have a story and God has a story. Drew explained how we fit into this great story and have purpose and meaning in life.

After the evening session we had a game called the Amazing Race where we groups of 7-10 people had to run around camp and pick up a sticker at 17 different locations. The first team to complete this task was Jeff Brown's team and their prize is a scoop of ice cream from the cafe tonight. They are all very excited.

Well, time to run to dinner. I will blog more tonight about today's activities!
